2. Primary School Curriculum
The curriculum at Kings School Dubai Al Barsha is based on the National Curriculum of England, teaching skills and knowledge in line with UK standards, but the curriculum is tailored to each child, providing meaningful and inspiring learning experiences.
★Key Stage 1: Year 1-2, 5 to 7 years old
Aimed to help children transition from the play-based learning of the pre-school stage to the more formal daily learning of Key Stage 2, the school creates opportunities to provide memorable learning experiences, encouraging children to persevere through cooperation and investigation, such as a series of activities such as the chick hatching activity.
★Key Stage 2: Year 3-6, 7 to 11 years old
There is a greater emphasis on independence, leadership and cooperation, and the learning experiences are designed to reflect the following:
Inspire thinking skills
Develop a spirit of adventure
Develop emotional intelligence
Inspire imagination
Challenge
Build confidence
Develop leadership skills
As leadership is further developed, students can take on a variety of leadership roles in the final two years, such as the Head Boy and Head Girl of the four houses, House Captain and Deputy House Captain. These leaders play an integral role in the running of the school and are required to participate in and plan many activities. In addition, all children have the opportunity to take a leadership role in all aspects of school life, such as caring for animals, managing the school library, reading to younger children, etc.
At the primary school level, learning goes beyond the confines of the classroom. First-class campus facilities, local culture and historical sites provide more opportunities to enrich the curriculum. From testing aerodynamic racing cars at Yas Island Marina Circuit to beach clean-up eco-days, all trips and experiences are designed to promote practical learning and team building.
3. Secondary School Curriculum
Teaching concept-based learning, that is, using concepts to study a wide range of topics. For example, the Industrial Revolution is studied through the concept of "technology". Adding inquiry-based learning tasks to the concepts, such as "How has technology changed people's lives?", stimulates children's curiosity and inspires them to become lifelong learners.
★Key Stage 3: Year7-9, 11 to 14 years old
Involves a broad and balanced curriculum to provide students with the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to become educated global citizens. Students can take up to 10 GCSE exams and can also apply for the British Baccalaureate (EBacc) course. The Russell Group universities in the UK have identified the following subjects as preferred subjects for entry into degree courses: English, mathematics, history or geography, science, language, computer science
