The Duke of Edinburgh International Award encourages young people to learn new skills, actively exercise, volunteer in the community, and discover a sense of adventure outside of the classroom. It provides opportunities for young people to unleash their potential and prepare for their world, no matter what it may be.
Using the award framework and with the support of adult volunteers, young people develop their own customized plans as they strive to win internationally recognized bronze, silver, and gold awards.
Participants need to complete the skills, sports and entertainment, volunteer service, and adventure sections in order to win the award. In addition, gold medalists must also complete a residential section.
At Jumeirah College, international awards are fully integrated into school life, encouraging students to start receiving bronze awards in 10th grade, silver awards in 11th grade, and gold awards in 6th grade.
